September 9th

On September 9, 1939, “Over the Rainbow” became #1 on the American record chart. The Academy Award-winning song of that year became hit records for Judy Garland, Bob Crosby, and Larry Clinton, but only the version by Glenn Miller & His Orchestra, with Ray Eberle on vocal, reached the top of the chart:  Glenn Miller – Over the Rainbow

On that same date, only 89 years earlier, California became the Union’s 31st state. Tons of songs have been written about the Golden State, but the official state song is “I Love You, California” (words by F.B. Silverwood, music by A.F. Frankenstein), published in 1913. The song was recently revived in this statewide ad campaign for Jeep:  I Love You, California
